Borobodur truly is symbolic on every level. Each of the nine stages represents a step on the path towards the pinnacle of Buddhist philosophy - Nirvana itself. Buried for 700 years by a volcanic eruption, the 9th century temple is still being pieced back together like an enormous jigsaw.
