2008 - : Editorial Associate, United Nations Volunteers (UNV). Researching, writing and editing English-language content for communications unit at United Nations Development Programme agency.

2006-2008: Freelance journalist and editor during and after MSc in International Relations at University of Amsterdam. Editing for academic publishers; writing for UK newspapers and websites. (Click here for list).

2003-2005: Freelance writing and sub-editing both for Shanghai-based English-language magazines and international publications. (Click here for list).

Wide-ranging contact with Asia-Pacific region, travelling and freelancing. Journalism and editing work both for local English-language magazines and international publications. Four months in South-East Asia: two years in China teaching Journalism, English and Western Culture at Shanghai University of Finance and Economics and three months spent travelling and assisting with family business interests in India.

2002-2003: Staff reporter for The Engineer magazine. Writing news and features on technology and engineering subjects, particularly the defence and aerospace industries. Worked on relaunch of the magazine from a trade weekly to a specialist consumer fortnightly.

2000-2002: Staff reporter at Jane's Information Group (Jane's Navy International and Jane's Defence Upgrades). Writing news, analysis and features primarily on naval subjects but also covering land and air force stories. Contributions to Jane's Defence Weekly, International Defence Review and Janes.com.

1999-2000: Work experience placements and professional journalism training at University of Wales, Cardiff.

1997-1999: Deloitte and Touche Business Services Group, working on financial advice and accounts for small to medium enterprises. First-time passes at Conversion and Technical Core (1) examinations towards ACA qualification.

1996-1997: Temporary work to fund travel in Sub-Saharan Africa during summer 1997.

Amsterdam/New York: Reporting proceedings for university website as part of international academic exchange with New York University Remarque Institute (2006 US-Europe Public Forum on ‘Faith and the State’).

Shanghai: Editing and managing English-language website www.livinginchina.com for one year, co-ordinating content from volunteer writers. (Site defunct since 2004 after key team members’ departure from China).

London: Took evening course in 35mm photography with Goldsmiths College (University of London) tutor (2002).

Assisted with production of Jane’s Navy International and Jane’s Defence Upgrades magazines including sub-editing, picture sourcing and proofreading. Wrote paper outlining ideas to develop online versions of these publications; responsibility for updating their respective websites.

Oxford: Pembroke College Junior Common Room Secretary, 1995
Editing and distributing fortnightly college newspaper, organizing meetings for up to 300 people, negotiating with college fellows and managing information supply to all undergraduates. Also supplied university newspapers with articles and information.
