In 1954, the French took their last stand at Dien Bien Phu. It was the end of their Empire and signalled the beginning of what was to become known as "The American War". Yet despite its significance to the Vietnamese nation, the remnants of battle have fallen into dereliction and have been consumed by the town itself.
