Scene of the war's bloodiest fighting, only the trained observer now knows where to look now in the former Demilitarized Zone that split North and South Vietnam along the 17th parallel. The Ho Chi Minh Trail has been paved over, Khe Sanh firebase is a barren wasteland and what used to be critical surveillance posts are just piles of rocks again.
