GULANG YU

A short boat ride from Xiamen, the tiny island of Gulang Yu is an oasis from the mainland. No cars. No trains. Not even a bicycle. But for the flag-toting megaphone-wielding tour guides, Gulang Yu would be a haven of tranquility rich in colonial architecture and indolence.
